James Brown, RIP...as big an influence on music in our lifetime as Dylan...no he was bigger than Dylan, he invented genres of music.
My personal hero as a bass player is Bootsy Collins and he got his start as a pro when he was a teen ager with his Brother Catfish playing on the classic late 60's and early 70's James Brown stuff. His stories of touring with James are insane. Bootsy and his brother were always sneaking around James iron hand approach to the band. He strictly forbade drugs. Once on a plane trip in Africa, the Collins brothers were often drinking milkshakes laced with LSD. James always wanted a taste of what other people had and they were only too happy to oblige! IT'S TOO FUNKY IN HERE!
