Mental Detox Week approaches

Originally Turn Off Your Television Week, Mental Detox Week bids us let go of all the electronic gadgetry including cell phones, Blackberries, iPods, not to mention all computer related activities.

7 Days without blogging? And how can one exist without email or cell phones? Who is up for that? I like the idea, but I don't think I have what it takes to turn off and tune out for 7 days.

Besides, blogging is not mentally toxic. At least, not for me it isn't. Blogging is a mental stimulant as well as a form of self-discipline. It doesn't deplete, rather it enriches. I like it too much to give it up for 7 days. Television, however, might be much easier to give up. Especially since the DVR recording option can hold onto anything I might want to see. Is that cheating? I'm not sure. But 7 days away from the tube might be a good thing to try. I'll let you know how it goes.

Sounds like a bad idea to me. First of all I work in front a computer, I can't lose a whole week's pay. And give up TV? I have enough problems in life without giving up some of the few things that I really enjoy.

While I love my blog, blogging is toxic for me. I spend way too much time in front of the computer, reading, surfing, oh, and working a little.

How can I get my boss to let me off the computer for a week? I would love it! We all need to unplug.

I think the entire point is to find other forms of personal enrichment in life. If TV was never a big thing for you anyway, that kind of defeats the purpose. I know that I spend entirely too much time sitting here, in front of my pc, which is why I have made the choice to go entirely without.

To me, It's only a week. and its an adventure. If you like to blog so much, you can always write a journal, and post it later?

Primarily I think the purpose is to re-iterate the fact that there are so many possibilities in life, why sit here?

Just my 2 cents.

Hi Anon --

I guess the moral of the story is that too much of anything can be toxic. We each need to examine our lives and figure out the optimum strategies for enjoying it to the fullest.
