Do something useful -- Buy Nothing on Nov 23rd

As the holiday season approaches, ask yourself what do we, as a species, really need? More stuff? More calorie laden foods? More automobile exhaust on the freeways and in the parking lots of America's malls?

Or maybe we really need to stay home and clear out our junk. Donate the things that are usable to people who could really use them. Recycle items that otherwise clog our landfills.

On Friday, November 23rd, as the mindless masses head off before dawn to wait in line at Walmart and other big box stores, I'll be sleeping in. I won't be driving my vehicle that day, instead I'll be using the day off from work to put on some music and dance around the house. I may read a book or write a few emails, and maybe go for a walk with Oberon if the weather allows it.

What I won't be doing is spending money on stuff I don't need or stuff that others don't need. I hope you will consider joining in this coming Friday. Buy Nothing and blog about what you didn't buy!

I thought I'd post from NYC! The East Village is full of bank branches...
What are all these high rise buildings doing below Houston Street?
What happened to CBGB? There is a CBGB Boutique on St. Marks Place....
I was here less than 2 years ago and it's all changed! I can't afford any of these restaurants....though I did find a Japanese fast food place on 14th Street that was very good and very cheeep! Sesame Pancake sandwiches and dumplings. Vanessas Dumplings between 3rd Ave and 2nd...
Microdot 4 star cheap but good rating!
I did end up eating in a classy pizza place on East 12th with an old friend...great expensive pizza and the house wine is one I have sampled in France and referred to as "amusing" Lachrima
Christi....literally "tears of christ"
I saw some great music and today saw how the art community has now colonized the decaying industrial zones out at the end of the L Train , pushing further into Brooklyn.
A young guy who I have known since he was 2 years old, has a workshop in an old industrial space building guitars....he also has a loyal clientel of musicians who need cellos, basses and violins repaired. I was able to hang around there and play some instruments that I could have only dreamed of touching.........
too bad I'm leaving Wednesday morning....
On the other hand, it's so loud here now, I can't wait to get back to my home!

NYC -- a great place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there. CBGB closed awhile back. Sad indeed. Brooklyn is the place for art. I was very impressed by all the artist studios on display at the DUMBO festival. I can't imagine how tough it must be to live and survive in NYC on artist wages.
